Our Story

Founded on Equality & Fairness

Rose Court Chambers was founded in January 2021, during the height of the global pandemic. What began as a virtual set of barristers’ chambers with two clerks and five members has developed into a respected UK chambers with over twenty practising barristers and a dedicated clerking and fees team of four.

Despite our rapid growth, our core values have remained the same: excellence, equality, diversity, and transparency. These principles are at the heart of everything we do.

At Rose Court Chambers, we are committed to providing cost-effective and accessible legal services to all, including those who may not have the means to secure representation. We support and represent under-represented groups, working to overcome discrimination and ensure that everyone, regardless of background, identity, or circumstances, has the right to a fair trial. This includes undertaking pro bono work where appropriate.

Our chambers has built long-standing relationships with many instructing solicitors, who value our reliability, professionalism, and high standards of advocacy. We strive to improve the quality of our service to both professional and lay clients.

Looking ahead, our goal is to further develop a transparent and collaborative approach to working with our solicitor clients, making communication and case management as seamless as possible.

As we look to the future, Rose Court Chambers is committed to growing organically while maintaining the integrity and culture that set us apart. In 2025, we will welcome our first pupils, marking an exciting milestone in our journey. With a strong and diverse group of barristers supported by an experienced clerking team, we are confident that Rose Court Chambers will continue to deliver exceptional legal representation and trusted advocacy for years to come.

Fees Protocol

At Rose Court Chambers, our barristers’ fees are typically charged using one of two common fee structures: fixed fees or hourly rates.

Fixed Fees

A fixed fee is agreed in advance for a defined piece of work undertaken by counsel. The level of the fee will take into account a number of factors, including:

  • the seniority and experience of the barrister instructed

  • the complexity and nature of the issues involved

  • the volume of documentation

  • the time reasonably required to complete the work

A fixed fee can usually be agreed once the relevant papers have been received and counsel has been formally instructed in the matter.

Where possible, our clerking team may also provide guide pricing or approximate estimates to assist both professional clients and lay clients when considering instruction.

Hourly Rates

In some cases, barristers may charge on an hourly rate basis. Where this applies, the time spent on each piece of work will be carefully recorded and charged at the agreed hourly rate for the barrister instructed.

A breakdown of work undertaken can be provided where appropriate.

VAT

All fees are exclusive of VAT, which will be applied where applicable in accordance with current legislation.

Quotations

Our clerking team will be pleased to provide fee quotations on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the nature and requirements of the matter.

Legal Aid and Direct Access

All counsel at Rose Court Chambers accept instructions on a legal aid basis, subject to eligibility and availability.

Certain members of chambers are also qualified to accept instructions under the Direct Access Scheme, allowing members of the public and organisations to instruct barristers directly without the need for a solicitor.
